How the calculation works

1. Distance

Monthly distance = daily distance × riding days.

2. Energy use

EV energy = monthly distance ÷ usable range × wall energy per full charge.

3. Cost

Multiply energy by your electricity rate. For petrol, divide distance by efficiency and multiply by petrol price.

Frequently asked questions

What electricity tariff should I use?

Use the marginal price you pay for added charging energy, including applicable taxes and adjustments. Your average bill rate can give a different estimate.

How do I choose a realistic riding range?

Use the distance you can reliably travel with your usual load, speed and route. A manufacturer claim may differ from everyday range.

Why is wall energy higher than battery capacity?

Charging uses energy beyond what is stored in the battery. A socket meter can measure wall energy per full charge.

Should I include battery replacement costs?

It is optional. If you include a replacement price, enter an assumed life as well. The estimate spreads that expense across the period for budgeting.
